Going away for a stretch…

Taking off to Colorado and then Wyoming for a relaxing time at Eaton’s Ranch. Before the horseback riding and beautiful views, I will have to wake up ass-early tomorrow to make it to Newark. Apparently, if you want a Super Shuttle car to take you to the airport from Brooklyn it’s $75 for two people. In Manhattan, it’s $28. Go figure. Anyways, I promise to post things when I get back and to redesign the site. Really, I swear.

Check out A. Ross’s blog Crossfiah for some juicy political debates while I’m gone.

It’s Funny Cause it’s True

Robots playing soccer. I am very scared that this will become a new obsession for my father and the rest of my family who are in some state that begins with an “M” that has the Mall of America in it. Why are they in the M-state? Soccer! Lil sis is a big-time soccer player. It’s good to know that if she decides to quit, my dad has something to fall back on.

Beautiful Frenzy

This weekend was insane, but in a good way. Friday evening was spent Marks mixing at Serious Business and then Man in Gray came in to put the final touches on the 7″. Instead of helping the boys I was a bad singer who took the train to Katonah with Phil and Mary for some Marks Physical Challenge. Night swimming on Friday and then hiking and rock climibing at the incredibly beautiful Mohonk Preserve on Saturday completed the challenge. Oh wait, there was also the heavy drinking on Saturday night. Physical challenge complete! Go over to Lame Punk Slogan for the weekend in pictures.

Sunday, Phil and I threw an Outfoxed viewing party sponsored by MoveOn. At first I was little aprehensive about having strangers in the apartment, but every one was amazing, articulate and very friendly. We even had who might have been the youngest person at a MoveOn party, Jonah, who is almost 7 weeks old. Having this party reminded me that (once again) NYC is a great place to live. We had a bunch of musicians at the party (pianist, jazz singer, tango singer, The Marks), writers, a spoken word artist, a model and an architect and every one was talking and getting along really well. Thanks for coming. Go over to The Good Riddance to discuss the film if you’ve seen it.

To the DMV!

And back.  I now have a temporary paper license to replace the old one, which I lost a year or so ago.  The process was not as bad as it could have been, although I was rushed through because I was already in the system.  I didn’t even have to show a piece of ID, which was a bit disheartening because there were all these signs about checking ID and how a social security card was MANDATORY, NO EXCEPTIONS.  Well, I didn’t have my card and I have my license now, so way to go Homeland Security and NYS DMV.  To be fair, they were giving a man with two different names on two pieces of ID a very hard time.  However, maybe the fact he was hispanic and did not speak much english was also reason.  The mysteries of the DMV.  How I would hate to work there.

Oh, I also made a friend.  Well, not really, but I had a very pleasant conversation with a girl who had just moved to the city a week ago from Michigan.  She was standing behind me on line with a sheaf of papers that she obviously got from the DMV website and was explaining to this girl with an accent (maybe German, definitely Eastern European) what types of ID were accepted.  It really made me happy to see someone try to be nice to someone else, especially on a DMV line, so I turned to her and said hi and we had a chat about NYC and surfing.  She wants to buy a car (primarily for the surfing) and I told her she was insane.  Maybe not insane, but I then gave her a pitch about the beauty of mass transit and NYC and the horrors of parking, commuting, NY insurance and exhorbitant tickets.  Not sure if I convinced her or not, but I told her to do some research.  Sometimes the MTA can be a huge pain in the ass, but it primarily does the job.  She was very excited to learn you can get to Jones Beach by train (yep, you can).  I had to run to my ticket window, so I gave her a Man in Gray flier for the upcoming benefit.  I hope she wasn’t scared off.

There was more to this email, but I’m not sharing.  It’s nice to have friends do your dirty blog work for you.

The Marks are hitting the studio tonight to finish off the demo and then we’re taking a field trip.  Rock-n-roll kiddies.
