No More Potato Salad

Filed under: consumption, weekend — Tina @ 4:48 pm

Don’t get me wrong, I love the stuff, but this weekend was one of extreme consumption which started off with a picnic I threw at Prospect Park. Some of the goods:

3 Bean Salad

Three Bean Salad with Secret Dressing (the secret is pomegranate syrup)

Jenny P's wicked Cookies

Jenny P. made some delectible chocolate chip/peanut butter cookies. Extra peanut butter this time!

Roasted Pototo and Okra Salad

Roasted Potato and Okra Salad…I am having a love affair with okra right now.

After the madness of the weekend, this week Phil and I are attempting to eat only raw foods. Tonight I made zucchini “pasta” with tomato sauce and it came out better than expected.

Zucchini Pasta w/Sauce

Tomorrow I’ll post up another pic and the recipe for the curious.

Masochism

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tina @ 12:00 pm

The reason why I haven’t been posting about culinary adventures, or anything for that matter, is because I have been busy organizing a huge rock show/dance party/dj battling extravaganza and I think things are finally in order. Well sorta. Check out Beg Yr Pardon for the schedule, blog and to read up about why I (and the lovely D, Phil and Bryan) are not going to be sleeping on Tuesday nights.

The venue is The Delancey, the first show is Tuesday, June 6, 2006 (666!) and the bands are going to be great! Did I mention that there will be $5 all you can eat BBQ and free brownies and cupcakes made by moi? Oh yeah.

No Sleep Till…

Filed under: Blogroll, weekend, whiplash — Tina @ 8:31 am

This was the weekend of mad partying, tons of food and swingsets. All good things in small doses, but going Friday, Saturday and Sunday at full throttle has worn me out. Here’s some photos of the more culinary aspects of the weekend.

Friday Night

Dacia eats a cupcake
This is Phil’s classmate Dacia. She is biting into a delectible red velvet cupcake that I made just 2 hours prior and looking very classy in those glasses.

Phil's Hummos
Normally Phil makes a ton of hummus and we get to eat it for days, but this stuff (ground soy and spices in the middle - from a Saveur recipe) was off the hook and was gobbled down. Delicious.

Saturday
The Penis Cake
Monica’s Bachelorette Party. The Penis Cake is the start of a very crazy evening.

Sunday
banana bread
Wholesome banana bread served for Mother’s Day brunch (recipe later).

Kick Out the Jams

Filed under: awesome, rocknroll, this is for real — Tina @ 10:52 am

Many, many exciting things going on both on the Internet and in the REAL WORLD. Yes, folks, the world beyond the keyboard can be a beautful thing (i.e., see bike photos below). First, second and third things:

1. DraculaZombieUSA will be playing a nutty set over at Fontana’s tonight at 11:30. Fuck Must See TV! This is Must See Music!

2. Ruined Music is up with two sweet stories about songs that still tug at the heartstrings. Check it out and submit your own sob story.

3. I, with the help of D-Hella, Phil and Bryan, will be throwing a party every other Tuesday called “Beg Yr Pardon” at The Delancey on the LES. There’s gonna be bands, baked goods, possibly BBQ and definitely beer and whiskey. There will also be ipod battles, djs and awesome people to meet. Become our friend now, or at your earliest convenience. The first party is on June 6th!!! Tell yr friends!

4, I mean, 5 Boro Bike Tour

Filed under: awesome, weekend — Tina @ 5:55 am

After rocking out at the Deli Magazine party on Saturday night, I had to wake my ass up at 6am for the 5 Boro Bike Tour. To be fair, Phil also had to wake up with me after a late night of rocknroll and nursing my hand (long story short, I had a dog gnawing at my hand while I sang - here the dog is just about to bite). We then met up with Monica, Simon and Caitlin and took the subway to Battery Park for the start of the tour. It was chilly out and waiting in the skyscraper canyon of the Financial District did not help our muscles warm up for the upcoming 42 mile ride, but ride we did! Up Sixth Avenue, through Central Park, over into the Bronx for about 4 minutes, back into Manhattan, up to Queens, over to Brooklyn and then pedaling up the Verrazano Bridge to finish up in Staten Island! It was such a beautiful day - sunny and crisp and it was so awesome to see thousands and thousands of bike helmets and people riding. While I knew some of the bottle-necking and waiting was inevitable (c’mon, over 30,000 people on bikes is gonna cause problems), it was still a tiny bit annoying. Once I started going though, it was really fantastic. NO MORE CARS!!! After the ride, we took the ferry back to Manhattan and Phil and I biked over the Brooklyn Bridge into the Slope because we are hardcore - and because I didn’t think my butt could hurt any worse. The good news is that today I feel awesome. A little tired, but I’m not achy at all. Any one else want to go on a bike ride?

A good stretch before the bridge.
These nice window-washers offered to bring people up on their lift to take pictures while we were waiting to start (2 hour wait).

The start.
Of course, I took advantage of this - the view of thousands of bike helmets.

Bottleneck.
The bottleneck before Central Park.

A good stretch before the bridge.
Me and Monica have a good stretch before we attempt to conquer the gradual steepness of the Verrazano Bridge.

Verrazano Bridge.
We biked over this whole thing - bridges are hard!

Vive Montreal! (did I get that right?)

Filed under: Blogroll, travel, weekend — Tina @ 6:27 pm

This past weekend I got to take a mini-vacation. Man in Gray had a gig in the lovely city of Montreal, so me, Phil, Jared and Steph headed up there tout suite in order to get some delicious food and drink into our bellies before the show on Saturday night. Despite the fact that the band we were supposed to be sharing equipment with never showed up, we managed to have a kickass rocknroll show. A big thanks to Julien for setting up the show, finding us amps and a drumkit and being the sweetest guy ever (with the cutest french accent!). On Sunday, I got up to an amazing breakfast (if going to Montreal, stay at this place or this place if you want comfy/affordable rooms and fantastique home-cooked breakfasts) and hit up the Marché Jean-Talon. Phil and I had really wanted to hit up the Marché Atwater, but all went well as I got the STINKIEST cheese, a Val de Weiss munster, (an Alsace Munster washed in beer) from a cheese-monger at Jean-Talon. How stinky? Let’s put it this way, the cheese was plastic wrapped in its own wooden container, then put into a ziplock bag and then into one of those keep cool/hot bags and was kept in the back of the car whereby whenever the car jolted a bit, the smell of stanky fromage nearly killed the passengers. I tried it last night and it was delightful! Not as scary as the smell. The next time I go to Montreal I will get even more smelly, runny and delicious cheeses and spend more time relaxing and drinking wine and eating chocolates. Two short days are not enough to do that city justice.

Steph relaxing
Steph was probably contemplating on which amazing chocolate to try with the wine.

Playing tag at the marche
This lettuce smelled so good in the sun - take my word for it.

FROMAGE
So much cheese!!

Playing tag at the marche
At this point, I think Phil was hiding from the stank cheese and I caught him behind bananas.
